The functional intent has also been achieved: to provide a sheltered entry portal to the AEC for the major crowds attending events, as well as creating a large covered weather-protected outdoor/ indoor area within which functions and presentations can take place. LDP for Adelaide entertainment Centre (AeC) – new entry Dome SouthauStralia The lighting brief was simple and concise: create a lighting response which maximally exploits the visual and light transmission characteristics of the ETFE material which, in the form of inflated cushions, fills the structural ‘cells’ formed by the steel geodesic structure. In creating such it was important to establish a commanding visual attraction which would become the night time identity of the AEC and which speaks of “Entertainment”. In addition to providing a high degree of spectacle it was also necessary to provide ground (floor)level illumination which would be adequate for the safe movement of large crowds in the event that the overhead feature’s lighting becomes non-operational.
