56 LIGHTING MAGAZINE | December 2017/January 2018 December 2017/January 2018 | LIGHTING MAGAZINE 57 2017 IESANZ INTERNATIONAL LIGHTING DESIGN AWARDS Award of Excellence to Donn Salisbury and Vladimira Rosolova of Electrolight for The Farm, Gerro, NSW Designers’ statement: This stunning piece of modern architecture, located on a rolling, green hill above Gerroa, has been delightfully illuminated. The structures appear to be part of the landscape and the lighting melts organically into the built form. Judges’ comments: This private residence was masterfully lit in a way that places the lighting second to the architecture, raising its architectural form to it best. Daytime is dominated by daylight in living areas. Night is dominated by carefully placed LED downlights (blades and pendants). Bathroom mirrors reflect light to faces. The design showed sensitivity and a high level of detail was applied to achieve the outcome. (Photos Rohan Venn) Award of Excellence to Bruce Greenshields and David Winch for Friedrichstrasse House Lounge/Dining, Maylands, SA Designers’ statement: The owner is a mechanical engineer and the residence is a long term passion for the owner and his wife. The lighting was to enhance but also soften the industrial design of the residence making it a home. Interiors were to be soft but versatile. Judges’ comments: Seemingly simple design carefully executed. Lighting mostly subservient to architecture and well integrated. There is good use of pendants and task lighting supported by a table and floor lamps. The real hero was the use of daylight in all areas, controlled by motorised louvres.
