Announced 25 April 2015, and to be delivered complete a year later, the accelerated timeline was one of the most challenging aspects of this project. Judges’ comments: The cultural significance of ANZAC Centenary Memorial Walk necessitated graceful and subdued lighting effects, while the requirements for high levels of public space lighting, and an intent to play with contrast, made for challenging parameters in lighting design. This project has an aesthetically sensitive lighting solution for a project with unique design constraints. TO AARON GRIEGER OF BESTEC AND SUSIE QUINTON OF HASSELL FOR STRETTON CENTRE CENTRAL STAIR, MUNNO PARA Designers’ statement: The central stair was always intended to be a design feature of the Stretton Centre, and was required to be illuminated to ensure it remain functional as the main directive for the entire project. Judges’ comments: The Stretton Centre is a place of innovation designed to bring together researchers, industry, government and the community in a collaborative manner. The central stair compliments this intent allowing unrestricted access between floors. The striking spiral stair incorporates flexible linear LED lighting recessed along both edges of the stair to accentuate its shape. Award of Commendation TO FIONA VENN, AMANDA CORROTO, ANTHONY LINARD AND BEN CARR FROM WSP VISION DESIGN FOR FLINDERS UNIVERSITY STUDENT HUB ENTRY FOYER AND ATRIUM, BEDFORD PARK Designers’ statement: The interior circulation and atrium lighting is integrated with the interior architecture with large round feature luminaires lighting through mesh ceiling grid. Judges’ comments: The lighting design for Flinders University Student Hub creates a unique sense of place and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The lighting flows from the interiors to the exterior Plaza with a “line of sight” as a connecting thread between the spaces. The lighting to the central atrium highlights the organic architectural curves of the space without intrusion.
